Jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjaaayyyyyy

J is for JABBERWOCKY by Lewis Carroll: this is one of m favourite poems ever purely because every time I read it I get take something new from it. I think it paints a different picture in my mind every time and I love that so here's to the JABBERWOCKY :) Let me know what you think? What's yor favourite poem? Xxxx

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

  1. This is such a fun poem to read aloud. You are right - there is always a new discovery in it!

My favorite poem is "Messenger" by Mary Oliver. It is the first poem in her "Thirst" collection, which is one of my absolute favorites. I love poetry... almost all of it (except for really bad poetry with the poet who thinks it is so marvelous!) Eeeep.

    Happy A to Z-ing!

  2. Gosh, I haven't read this since high school many, many moons ago. I still wonder what metaphor Carrol was going for. From today's reading, I think the Jabborwocky is the close-minded that keeps others boxed into thinking like them. Ah, that's what aging does to me. :-)
